International Conference "Roads and Innovations": Experts from 20 Countries to Discuss the Future of the Road Industry

On November 19, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Roads and Innovations" kicked off in the capital, as part of the Kaztraffic-2025 exhibition.

The conference has become one of the largest industry events of the year, bringing together leading scientists, engineers, government representatives, and companies from the road construction sector.

The conference was organized by the Kazakh Road Research Institute (KazdorNII) with the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. By the ministry's mandate, KazdorNII has embarked on a comprehensive effort to introduce new technologies into Kazakhstan's road industry. Specialists are studying advanced global practices, analyzing key innovations, and assessing the feasibility of adapting them. At the same time, road scientists in Kazakhstan are conducting their own developments.

"Today, we are developing a separate program for the advancement of the road sector, where we plan to implement the latest technologies in road construction and the formation of the transport framework," said Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Maksat Kaliakparov, during his welcoming speech.

This year, the event gathered experts from around 20 countries, including the United States, Turkey, Russia, Italy, and other European Union countries, who presented current developments and approaches in road construction and maintenance.

Both domestic and international participants focused on key issues defining the development of the road sector in the coming years. Central topics of discussion included road safety, standardization and quality control, the introduction of intelligent transport systems, digitalization of the industry, and winter road maintenance—an area particularly relevant for countries with harsh climates. The conference became a platform where scientific solutions and industry practices converged to develop a unified approach to tackling the most pressing issues in road management.

Representatives of KazdorNII noted that domestic developments are now an important part of the sector’s transformation and are already yielding real-world results.

"Today, Kazakh road science is creating competitive solutions that are in demand both in road maintenance and the construction of new facilities. At the conference, we presented a range of domestic additives and materials developed by KazdorNII scientists. We are actively implementing these technologies, and the first results confirm their effectiveness in real operating conditions," emphasized Adiya Zhumagulova, Director of the Department for Science and Innovation Development at KazdorNII.

Among Kazakhstan’s developments, scientists highlighted new anti-icing materials, soil stabilizers, and other innovative additives that improve the durability of road surfaces and reduce road maintenance costs. According to institute experts, the localization of technologies not only strengthens Kazakhstan's sectoral independence but also offers innovative solutions on the international stage.

Alongside the conference, the XXI Kaztraffic-2025 International Exhibition took place, traditionally bringing together major manufacturers of special equipment, road construction materials, and innovative solutions. Exhibitors from 20 countries showcased modern technologies and new approaches to building and maintaining transport networks.

The exhibition was a vibrant complement to the conference, allowing participants to explore both theoretical developments and real-life samples of equipment and materials being implemented in Europe, Asia, and America.

The Roads and Innovations International Conference became a key event for the sector, uniting professionals who can shape the future of Kazakhstan’s and the region’s road systems. The focus was on cutting-edge technologies, safety issues, digitalization, and new materials—areas that are essential to creating high-quality, sustainable road infrastructure for the future. The industry community unanimously agrees: such platforms strengthen international cooperation and set a high standard for the further development of the country’s road industry.
