American experience of road standards introduction will be considered for application in Kazakhstan Kazakhstan Road Research Institute scientists had business trip to the United States of America to establish cooperation and familiarization with the American regulatory framework in the field of road construction. In particular, they visited the headquarters of the international organization American Society for Testing and Materials in the state of Pennsylvania.

Vice-President of “KazdorNII” Yerik Amirbayev, Director of the Research Center Assel Nugmanova and Head of the Department of Bridge and Road Structures Kaisar Shalkar met with Director of ASTM International Jim Olszewski, as well as with the company’s experts in the field of road construction.

ASTM International develops and publishes voluntary standards for materials, products, systems and services. In the U.S. company Kazakhstan is familiarized themselves with more than 5 thousand U.S. road standards, which are taken as the basis of regulatory bases in 60 countries around the world.

“It should be noted that U.S. highway standards are reviewed and reissued every 5 years. Today, there are about 12,000 ASTM standards in use around the world, designed to improve the quality of materials, goods, and services, enhance safety, and promote market access. Their practical guidelines are used by industry and national governments. The rich experience of ASTM can be useful in the work on reforming the regulatory framework of the road industry in Kazakhstan, which is now conducted by KazdorNII”, said A. Nugmanova.

Recall that in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan, the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to improve the quality of roads until 2029. One of the main reasons for poor quality construction of highways is the imperfection of sectoral legislation.

The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan entrusted “KazdorNII” to reform domestic regulatory documents. The Institute has already held a number of meetings of the Technical Council with the participation of independent road experts, and to date has revised more than 400 GOSTs, about 200 standards and about 300 departmental normative and technical documents.
