Employees of the Kazakhstan Road Research Institute report about an increase in demand for laboratory testing of the qualities and properties of road construction materials.

From January 1 to April 30, 199 samples were tested at the request of road organizations, including 25 samples of bitumen and tar, 35 samples of crushed-stone, 38 samples of asphalt concrete pavement, and so on. This is twice as much as in 6 months of 2022.

“This year, the laboratory began to receive more applications. We associate this with the instruction of the Head of State to improve the quality of roads. Employers and contractors began to pay more attention to the testing of building materials. This has not been observed before. In addition, being the laboratory of the only branch institute, we monitor the latest equipment and we are equipped with the most modern samples. This also has an effect,” says Meiramgul Kabdygaliyeva, head of “KazdorNII” JSC testing laboratory.

It is worth emphasizing that the laboratory is the avant-garde of road science. The quality of roads primarily depends on the selection of building materials and technologies used in specific areas.

“Even a properly built road will begin to collapse the very next year after construction, if at the design stage they could not choose the right components,” emphasizes M. Kabdygaliyeva.

The laboratories of “KazdorNII” JSC test a variety of road construction materials and technologies. They are tested for quality, ratio, resistance to pressure and exposure to climatic conditions.

As part of the creation of the Unified Database of Road Construction Materials and New Technologies, the laboratory of “KazdorNII” has been sampling and testing materials from the quarries of the republic since the beginning of the year. The institute has already tested 151 road building materials: 90 stone and 10 sand materials, 12 crushed stone-gravel-sand mixtures, etc.

Let us recall that the electronic database is being created to account for and simplify the search for suitable components for the preparation of road bases and coatings in various climatic zones of Kazakhstan.
