The Road Research Institute, on the instructions of the Committee of Highways of the Ministry of Transport, continues to work on the adaptation and implementation of Superpave asphalt pavement design technology, new for Kazakhstan.
At the moment, the Research Institute has entered the stage of developing priority standards of regulatory documents according to which domestic asphalt concrete plants will operate.
At the same time, a phased program for the introduction of new technology is being developed, detailed manuals for working with equipment are being prepared, and foreign calculation models are being tested.
"Superpave technology is called "Superasfalt" in the professional circle. It has shown effectiveness and is widely used in the USA, Canada, European countries, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, China, Qatar and a number of other developed and developing countries. This design system improves the quality of asphalt concrete, increases the repair time by 1.5-2 times and, accordingly, the service life of highways. The introduction of the technique will solve the problem of trackage, increase the resistance of asphalt concrete to fatigue cracking, residual deformations and low-temperature cracking," says Kairat Mukhambetkaliev, Head of the Department of New Technologies of KazdorNIA, PhD.
The peculiarity of Superpave is the individual and more accurate laboratory selection of the composition of asphalt concrete mixtures according to a specially developed PG Grade scale. According to this technology, the choice of ingredients for asphalt concrete is based on an analysis of specific conditions in the road construction area, which includes features of climatic characteristics, intensity of transport loads and temperature limits over the past 20 years. This approach allows you to maximize the service life of roads.
