We are talking about new indexes “KAZ” and “KZ”.
🔵 According to the standard ISO 3166-2 of the International Organization for Standardization, geocodes “KAZ” and “KZ” officially designate the Republic of Kazakhstan. These codes are widely used in internet domains, government documents, reporting documentation and on license plates. They are recognizable both inside and outside the country. In this regard, Kazakhstan has approved the indexes “KAZ” and “KZ” for highways of international and republican importance.
🔵The index “KAZ” is assigned to 23 highways passing through several regions. For example, the road between Astana and Almaty through Karaganda received the index KAZ01, and the route Astana - Kokshetau (with bypass) - Petropavlovsk - Border of the Russian Federation (Zhana Zhol checkpoint) is designated as KAZ02.
🔵The index “KZ” is used for 88 roads of republican importance, which are within one region. For example, the road “Kandyagash - Emba - Shalkar - Irgiz” in Aktobe region received the index KZ04-02, where “04” indicates the region and “02” indicates the serial number of the road within the region. The road “Merke - Shu - Burylbaital” in Zhambyl Oblast is designated as KZ08-04, where “08” indicates the region and “04” is the road number within the oblast.
🔵 Road indices assigned under international agreements, such as “E” and “NA”, will remain unchanged to ensure consistency in the international transport system and convenience for transit traffic.

The road signs will be updated gradually as planned works are carried out and worn-out elements are replaced.
No additional funds are required for this, the works will be carried out as part of road maintenance.
