Starting in July 2025, new technical requirements for crushed stone and gravel for construction work will come into force in Kazakhstan.
Amendment No. 1 to standard ST RK 1284-2004 “Crushed stone and gravel from dense rock for construction works. Technical conditions” has come into force.
The revision was carried out on the basis of the requirements of Technical Regulation of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 435 of June 9, 2023 “On the safety of buildings and structures, construction materials and products” and Technical Regulation of the Customs Union TR TS 014/2011 “Safety of motorways,” as well as comprehensive scientific research carried out by specialists from KazdorNII.
"Our task was not simply to update the technical documentation, but to ensure a real improvement in the quality of inert materials. All changes were made based on practical experience and scientific data. We sought to make the standard not only strict, but also truly applicable to construction sites," emphasized KazdorNII.
The updated document takes into account modern conditions and practices for the use of crushed stone and gravel in the road industry. The standard applies to materials used in road and other construction works. However, it does not cover crushed stone intended for railway ballast and decorative types.
The changes affected the classification and designation of grades according to crushability, abrasion, and wear resistance. A new 5-40 mm mixture has been added to the section on main fractions, and the parameters for square sieves have been revised. The structure of the requirements for rock types has also been revised: the division into intrusive and effusive rocks has been removed, and they are now combined into a general category of igneous and metamorphic rocks.
The document has been supplemented with important new sections: “Safety requirements”, “Acceptance rules”, “Control methods”, and the provisions on transport, storage, and environmental protection have been updated. The bibliography of regulatory documents has also been updated.
The introduction of the updated standard will strengthen quality control of crushed stone and gravel, increase the reliability of products supplied, and extend the service life of infrastructure facilities, especially in the harsh climate of Kazakhstan.
