JSC “Kazakhstan Road Research Institute” (“KazdorNII”) has initiated a scientific project aimed at introducing “green” technologies into road construction. The research focuses on developing an innovative rejuvenating agent that will enable the restoration of aged asphalt concrete and its reuse in the upper layers of road pavements.

According to the experts at “KazdorNII,” the use of asphalt regeneration technology makes it possible to significantly reduce construction waste, lower energy consumption, and decrease carbon dioxide emissions generated during asphalt production. This approach is expected to form a new model of sustainable road construction, giving materials a “second life.”

“We are developing solutions that allow us to restore existing resources instead of consuming new ones. This not only reduces the environmental footprint but also makes the road industry more efficient and technologically advanced,” said Saltanat Ashimova, PhD, Head of the Department of Road Construction Materials and New Technologies at “KazdorNII.”

The work is being carried out under a grant received as part of the 2025–2027 competition for scientific and scientific-technical projects. The research is aimed at implementing “green” technologies in road construction through the use of rejuvenating compounds for asphalt concrete regeneration.

The project will enable the development of an environmentally friendly domestic composition adapted to Kazakhstan’s climatic and operational conditions. Its implementation is expected to improve the quality and durability of road pavements while promoting the principles of a circular economy within the sector.

Overall, the project contributes to the advancement of “green” innovations and strengthens Kazakhstan’s role in the transition toward a sustainable and environmentally responsible economy.
