Scientists from JSC "KazdorNII" proposed to use bauxite sludge in road construction

Scientists from "KazdorNII" and "Kazdorinnovatsiya" LLP conducted a survey of road sections with the selection of materials on experimental sections of roads "Pavlodar - Semey - Kalbatau" and "Omsk - Maikapshagai", where during the reconstruction of the base formerly used bauxite sludge, which is a by-product of aluminum production.

Laboratory studies showed that the samples taken at these sites from the base of the road structure became 2-3 times stronger. It should be noted that the experimental section of the road “Pavlodar - Semey - Kalbatau” was paved 7 years ago, and the experimental section of the road “Omsk - Maikapshagai” - 20 years ago.

Scientists note that Kazakhstan has multibillion reserves of large-tonnage technogenic waste, which can be used in road projects. Also, there is a necessary regulatory framework - ST RK 781-2004 and GOST 32826-2014 and others. This experience, in opinion of domestic scientists, should be used.

“Large-scale application of the technology of production of binders from technogenic waste will allow to revise the cost of road construction works in favor of savings and make it possible to accelerate the pace of road construction, which will make the construction of at least 3-5 thousand kilometers of new roads per year possible,” - said the head of the science department of JSC “KazdorNII”, Ph.D. Kairat Mukhambetkaliev.

In addition, now scientists from KazdorNII JSC are concluding the research and development of additives for self-compacting concrete mixtures of highways based on technogenic waste, innovative composition of mineral powder for asphalt concrete, impregnating compounds for asphalt concrete and cement concrete pavements and others.
