Kazakhstan road research institute started working on the creation of "digital twins" of the roads.
The work is carried out as part of a project for developing electronic passport of roads. A digital twin is a virtual copy of road infrastructure, which allows optimizing its management.
Specialists of the road research institute use advanced high-resolution 3D video scanning technologies. The developed software displays three-dimensional layouts of roads and streets, including buildings, sidewalks and road markings. Based on the collected data, reports are prepared for road services.
«The system helps to promptly identify problems and find solutions without interfering with the real infrastructure. The technology allows to predict the consequences of changes and is based on data collected during measurements of street and road network parameters», specialists note.
The introduction of digital twins will increase the efficiency of road network management by creating a centralized database about the condition of roads and structures. This will provide multi-user access for coordinated management, which will allow planning and coordinating repair and maintenance works based on up-to-date data. It is expected that by accurately forecasting and allocating resources, costs will be reduced.
Continuous monitoring of road conditions and implementation of modern management standards will ensure the improved safety and quality of infrastructure. Data analysis will allow identification of problematic areas, and visualization will provide clear information on the state of the road network.
As a reminder, KazdorNII specialists are currently working on the creation of electronic passports of highways in different regions of the country, integrating them into a unified system of street and road network management.
