Today we would like to introduce to you a young scientist and employee of “Kazakhstan Road Research Institute” JSC, Manarbek Zhumamuratov, who has recently successfully completed the master’s program “Transport Construction” and is already actively contributing to the development of science in the road sector of Kazakhstan.
Tell us about your academic activities and the peculiarities of your master's thesis. My master’s thesis was devoted to increase of bearing capacity of embankment in the zone of conjugation with bridge structures. The main objective was to prevent the risks of collapse and failure of bridge structures, which helps to improve road safety and reduce the probability of accidents. As part of the research, laboratory tests were carried out on the basis of “KazdorNII” JSC, which helped to identify processes that can improve the physical and mechanical properties of the bearing capacity of the embankment.
How do you plan to continue your research work? In the near future I plan to enter doctoral studies in the same direction and continue my research. My goal is to take the approbation of the technology I am studying to the next level by applying it to a test site.
How do you see the application of your research in the road sector? Improving the load-bearing capacity of embankments in the zone of interface with bridge structures will prevent the risks of collapse and destruction of bridge structures. This will help to improve road safety and reduce the likelihood of accidents. My research will help to develop more efficient methods of construction and maintenance of bridge structures, which in turn will improve the quality of road infrastructure.
We are aware of the problem of shortage of road specialists and educational programs in this area. As a young scientist, what do you think should be done to change the situation? Yes, this is indeed a serious problem. Young scientists like me need support and encouragement to develop their research in the road sector. It is also important to increase the number of educational programs related to highway construction. The government should provide more grants for these areas to attract more students and motivate them to pursue this important field. Support of young scientists and development of educational programs are key factors for solving this problem. Young scientists are the future of the road sector. They are the ones who can bring new and innovative ideas that will help improve road infrastructure and road safety. Supporting their research activities contributes to the progress and development of the country as a whole.
